What is this scenario?

The opening

The sun is already leaning west. The lab is hot with a reduction that smells like burnt honey. Master Beren is upstairs, coughing blood, and refuses to let anyone else tend him. On the counter: a list of thirteen ingredients. You have seven. The kitchen maid, Tulla, is outside the door because she thinks you know what you are doing. You are, at best, a moderately gifted liar. What do you do?
