The opening
You walk down Kirkoswald Lane in your long black coat, the beak mask full of camphor. Doors are chalked with red crosses. A bell rings from three streets over — another body to collect. A woman runs from an alley with a child wrapped in cloth and grabs your sleeve. "Please," she says. "Please. Just look at her." You have five uses of tincture left. Seven more streets to walk. Night falls in three hours. What do you do?
